The short answer
Upload a floor plan (PDF, JPG, or PNG) to Ritn3D, review the auto-detected layout, tap Generate, and get an interactive 3D model in under 2 minutes. No CAD software, no 3D modeling experience, no desktop computer required.
The rest of this guide explains each step, what to expect, and how to get the best results.
Why convert a floor plan to 3D?
A 2D floor plan shows dimensions and room positions. It does not show what the space actually feels like.
A 3D model lets you orbit the space from any angle, walk through individual rooms, and get a sense of proportions that flat drawings cannot communicate. This matters whether you are buying a home, listing a property, planning a renovation, or presenting a design to a client.
The problem has always been the conversion process: traditional 3D modeling requires expensive software (SketchUp, Blender, Revit), technical skills, and hours of manual work. Hiring a freelance 3D artist costs $200–600 per model and takes days.
Ritn3D automates the entire process on your phone.
What you need
- A floor plan in PDF, JPG, or PNG format
- The Ritn3D app (iOS or Android)
That is it. No software subscriptions, no plugins, no learning curve.
Step 1: Upload your floor plan
Open Ritn3D and tap New Project. Select your floor plan file from your device. Supported inputs:
- PDF floor plans — work best because they preserve crisp vector lines
- Digital images (JPG, PNG) — exported from architecture software or downloaded from listings
- Scanned documents — photographed or scanned printed plans
- Photos of printed plans — even a phone photo of a paper floor plan works, though digital files produce better results
Step 2: Review the detected layout
Ritn3D automatically detects walls, doors, windows, and room boundaries. You will see an overlay of the detected layout on top of your original floor plan.
In this review step you can:
- Correct walls that were missed or incorrectly placed
- Adjust room types — bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, etc.
- Fix door and window positions if the detection placed them wrong
- Remove false detections like furniture or annotations mistaken for walls
Tip: Clean, legible floor plans typically need zero or minimal corrections. Heavily annotated or low-resolution plans may need more manual adjustment. Spending 30 seconds on corrections here saves you from regenerating later.
Step 3: Generate the 3D model
Tap Generate and wait. The 3D model is typically ready in under 2 minutes.
The result includes:
- Textured walls with realistic PBR materials (interior plaster, exterior finish)
- Accurate door and window placements with proper frame models
- Room-appropriate flooring — wood for bedrooms, tile for bathrooms
- Per-room lighting with warm tones tuned to each room type
- Decorative elements — ceiling lights, wall lamps, picture frames
Step 4: Explore and share
Once generated, you can:
- Orbit the model from any angle (bird's eye view)
- Walk through individual rooms interactively (Pro plan)
- Share a link — anyone can open it in their browser, no app install needed
Tips for the best results
| Tip | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Use PDF when possible | Preserves vector lines, sharpest detection |
| Ensure the plan fills the frame | Small or cropped plans reduce accuracy |
| Remove annotations before uploading | Measurement lines and furniture icons can confuse detection |
| Set room types correctly | Affects which textures and lighting are applied |
| Check doors and windows in review | Small openings are the hardest to auto-detect |
What file formats does Ritn3D accept?
- PDF — best quality, preserves crisp lines from architecture software
- JPG — common for listing photos and scanned documents
- PNG — good for digital exports with transparency
Both digital and scanned floor plans work. Clean architectural drawings and scanned blueprints produce the best results.
How much does it cost?
- Free tier: 3 renders per month, bird's eye view, share with up to 5 people. No credit card required.
- Pro plan: $9.99/month (launch price). 20 renders, walkthrough mode, no watermark, 90-day cloud sync.
For comparison, hiring a freelance 3D artist for a single floor plan model typically costs $200–600 and takes 3–7 days. Ritn3D Pro gives you 20 renders per month for less than the cost of a single freelance render. See our full pricing breakdown.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert a hand-drawn floor plan to 3D? Hand-drawn floor plans are not currently supported. For best results, use clean digital floor plans, scanned architectural drawings, or PDF exports from design software.
Do I need CAD or 3D modeling experience? No. The entire process happens in the app — upload, review, generate. No technical skills required.
Can the recipient of my shared link see the model without installing anything? Yes. Shared links open directly in the browser with a full interactive 3D viewer. No app, no login, no friction.
What is the output format? An interactive 3D model viewable in the app and via shareable web link.
